Butadiene: Butadiene monomer is present as the gaseous state in the atmosphere, which can be degraded by chemically induced hydroxyl free radicals, ozone or nitro free radicals. Acrylonitrile:Acrylonitrile is used by microorganisms in two main ways :

Acrylonitrile is first converted to acrylamide by nitrile hydrase, and then converted to acrylic acid by amidase;

Acrylic acid is produced directly under the action of nitrile hydrolase. Finally, it is absorbed and metabolized into CO2 and water by microorganisms

Properties: Biodegradable nitrile gloves do not degrade under normal conditions, and their performance is the same as that of ordinary nitrile gloves. The gloves degrade only in microbial soil.

Application

This test is used to determine the anaerobic degradation of plastic materials under high-solids anaerobic-designation conditions, which are similar to the conditions in a landfill.

The conditions are controlled and designed in the laboratory, and the test lasts for 30 days.

During the test, nitrile gloves are exposed to anaerobic conditions, where microorganisms break down the biodegradable material.

The percentage of carbon that is transformed into gaseous carbon dioxide and methane is measured to determine the biodegradation of the gloves.

However, it is not recommended to extrapolate the final biodegradation percentage and timeline from this test, as it may provide a false sense of security.

Additionally, the biodegradability claims of nitrile gloves tested by this method are limited to the numerical results of the test.

This test method is equivalent to ISO 15985, which is used in the European Union.
